Does Your Website Need a Rebuild for SEO?
By Christopher Reid ·
Not necessarily
Many existing websites can be improved through better content, clearer structure and technical fixes. A rebuild isn't automatically better for SEO, and a poorly planned one can even lose visibility you already have.
Improvements that often help without a rebuild
Common updates include:
- Rewriting thin service pages so they clearly answer customer questions.
- Improving page titles, headings and meta descriptions.
- Compressing large images to help pages load faster.
- Fixing broken links and adding links between related pages.
When a rebuild may be worth considering
A rebuild can make sense when:
- The website doesn't work well on mobile phones.
- The platform is outdated, insecure or difficult to update.
- The structure no longer reflects the services you offer.
- Fixing the existing site would cost more than starting again.
If you do rebuild, protect what's working
Keep pages that already attract visitors, and redirect old addresses to their new equivalents so visitors and search engines aren't sent to error pages. A website review helps identify whether updates or a rebuild would be more useful.
